Tuesday, September 16.
After getting good air again, and snacks/liquids for the day, we set off
onto the Natchez Trace, facing 78 degrees and rising plus 92 % humidity. Sweltering.
But The Trace was gorgeous, and a
good portion shaded. Traffic was
exceedingly light. Almost like riding a
wide bicycle trail. Great variety of
trees, even Southern Magnolia with their red/pink seeds. The road was hilly, with the climbs consistently
longer than the down-hills. But we did
get up to 27 mph on one. Unfortunately,
the uphill part was more like 4.2 mph. But
we conquered the 42 miles even though to Diane, it seemed like 62. We stayed at the Isabella Bed and Breakfast
in Port Gibson, MS, a lovely old home owned by Bobbye and Phil. They lent us their car to run out to Billy
Bob’s BBQ. YUMMY. Miss Bobbye was a delightful hostess,
meeting our every need and offering to do more.
Wish all B&Bs were like hers.
Sometimes following Rob as he searches for good air can be a challenge.
We start up the Natchez Trace.
Ambling North
Passing by a short piece of the original Trace
Learning to deal with the humidity hanging in the air
